$5M Up for Grabs by Livestock Production and Primary Processing Innovators

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – The Canadian Agri-Food Automation and Intelligence Network (CAAIN) today extended the January 3, 2023, submission deadline for its Livestock Innovation Program, an initiative designed to foster advances in a sector of vital importance to our economic and social wellbeing.

“There’s been a lot of interest in this funding call,” said CAAIN CEO, Dr. Cornelia Kreplin. “That’s not surprising given that $5M is on the table. We’ve also received some feedback—quite understandably, I might add—that the Holidays will make it difficult for teams to meet our original January 2 deadline to submit a Project Application Form. The innovators have spoken, and we have listened. Applicants now have until end-of-business on February 6, 2023, to submit their project outlines. We wish everyone the happiest of Holidays and an innovative New Year!”

CAAIN’s mandate from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is to focus on funding technological responses to the most significant opportunities and challenges facing the nation’s agricultural and food producers and processors. That means supporting promising efforts with the potential to provide economic or environmental value. Today’s announcement is more evidence of CAAIN’s commitment to delivering that mandate. When added to the total of approximately $26.4M CAAIN has committed to provide the 24 successful applicants of its first three competitions, the $5M that will be used to support the Livestock Innovation Program pushes CAAIN’S funding commitments to well over $31M.
