Canada’s controlled environment agriculture (CEA) sector is under pressure to grow more food with fewer resources while meeting climate goals. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) enrichment is a well-understood mechanism that can increases yield significantly. However, current practices rely on costly, energy-intensive CO₂ enrichment processes that increase operating costs and emissions. This project introduces a novel data-driven, AI-based integrated management system that unites water circulation, nutrient dosing, and CO₂ enrichment into a single, digitally-optimized platform. It leverages FloNergia’s patented pumping and mass transfer technology, coupled with sensor networks, and artificial intelligence and digital twin modeling to continuously adjust operating conditions for maximum efficiency and crop performance. The system’s design is estimated to cut energy use for pumping and CO₂ enrichment processes by 50-70%, increase vegetable yields by 15-30%, and provide growers with a modular, scalable technology that integrates easily into existing operations while delivering AI-driven insights for smarter decision-making. This will contribute to a next-generation smart farming system that lowers production costs, reduces emissions, and strengthens food security in order to position Canadian growers as global leaders in sustainable, climate-smart agriculture.
